The term "najm" in surah Ar-Rahman

أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم . بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

some mufassir put نَجْمٌ in سورة الرحمن as herbs. Upon a quick check on the dictionary, indeed نجم could be translated as herb 

What an interesting thing happen to me was, the other day I had an outing with my kids at some wild outdoor. Upon checking closely on the wild herbs around there in deed they look like starts from top :)

Is Al-Mathur the sword of Muhammad ﷺ

هل الماثور سيف رسول الله صل الله عليه وسلم ؟

The following is the replica of the said "Al-Mathur"; currently being display at my office lobby

As for now I will not believe that Al-Mathur is the sword of prophet Muhammad ﷺ because it got the 2 snake heads and decorated with studs. The snake heads seems to be against the teaching of our beloved prophet Muhammad ﷺ which is not to have any decoration of animals. Secondly most hadith I found only said that the handle made out of silver and none so far have I met says about the snake heads and the studs. I don't have any access to kitabul tarikh or history book so I might be missing out something. Nevertheless anything is unclear it is better to let it go..

Let's read the following hadith to end this entry. It is from the book of Shamaail Muhammadiah from Imam Al-Tarmizi

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ صُدْرَانَ الْبَصْرِيُّ، قَالَ‏:‏ حَدَّثَنَا طَالِبُ بْنُ حُجَيْرٍ، عَنْ هُودٍ وَهُوَ ابْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، قَالَ‏:‏ دَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم مَكَّةَ يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ وَعَلَى سَيْفِهِ ذَهَبٌ، وَفِضَّةٌ، قَالَ طَالِبٌ‏:‏ فَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْفِضَّةِ، فَقَالَ‏:‏ كَانَتْ قَبِيعَةُ السَّيْفِ فِضَّةً‏.‏

Hazrat Mazeedah bin Malik, the (maternal) grandfather of Hud says that when the Prophet of Allah sallallahu alaihe wasallam entered Makkah on the day it was conquered, his sword had gold and silver on it.

Talib who is one of the narrators of this hadith says that he asked the ustaadh, "On which part of the sword was the silver?" He replied, "The cap of the grip handle was made of silver.

Syria, previously known as Sham or Levent

Historically the Syria and it's surrounding is known as Sham /  الشام in Arabic or Levent in English. The meaning of these words pointing to the same area but the etymology ( the origin of the words ) came from different things.

According to wikipedia the word Levent :-
The term Levant, which first appeared in English in 1497, originally meant the East in general or "Mediterranean lands east of Italy".^[5] It is borrowed from the French levant 'rising', that is, the point where the sun rises,

According to Imam Al-Bukhari in his Sahih Al-Bukhari the term As-sham :-
سُمِّيَتِ الْيَمَنَ لأَنَّهَا عَنْ يَمِينِ الْكَعْبَةِ، وَالشَّأْمَ عَنْ يَسَارِ الْكَعْبَةِ 

It is name Al-Yaman because it is on the right side of the Ka'bah and As-Sham on the left side of the Ka'bah
